Maritime Restricted Operator Permit
Cellular phones are a wonderful addition to the world of personal communication. They should not, and in many cases, cannot be relied upon in on the water emergency situations. There are other advantages to having an onboard VHF radio including, but not limited to, continuous weather and safety broadcasts from both the Canadian and American Coast Guard.

The annual station licensing fee has been abolished (if you only sail in Canadian waters) but the Operator Permit is still required. This permit is valid for life.
Beware, radio users without a permit can incur heavy fines. Getting the permit involves a little home study and/or two evenings of classes including the exam.

Prerequisites: Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status

We have two options available, a facilitated seminar, or self study. In either case you will sit the same exam and receive a temporary certificate immediately on passing.
