This course is designed
for experienced day-sailors who are seeking to expand
their horizons. It is ideal for sailing couples who
get their own private cabin.
If you are
a really experieced sailor you may want to elect the
intensive version of
this course.
This course is only
available in the live
on board format
All training materials
are provided. PFD’s
(Personal Flotation Device’s) available for "normal" size
adults.
All Ynot Sailing courses
are offered in a non smoking environment
As
part of the crew you will experience all aspects of living
aboard including cooking, helming, crewing, navigating,
swimming, sleeping, socializing, etc. You are assured personal
attention as class size is limited to three.
The galley is equipped with a two burner propane stove
with an oven augmented by a gas bbq on the stern rail.
Food is kept fresh in a large built-in cooler.
If you have completed
a Coastal Navigation course or are just interested in practicing
your navigation skills we will include opportunities during
your personalized course.
On successful completion
of the course you will be awarded a Canadian Yachting
Association (CYA) Certificate to add to your logbook which
can be used as proof of competency.
The next steps to consider are:
Coastal Navigation,
Marine Radio Operator Permit,
Advanced Cruising.
Format FSS:
Two full weekends.
You join the boat on Friday evening and depart Sunday evening.
You sleep on the boat 2 nights each weekend. The second Saturday
night is usually spent at anchor in a local bay.
Format 5D:
A 5 day learn while cruising option. It can be any 5 consecutive
days including a weekend. If you would like extra days we can
usually accommodate that. We usually operate in the 1000 Islands
area for these courses including a mini voyage to Kingston.
Prerequisites: Basic
Cruising or equivalent plus practical experience.
If you have not done much sailing since Basic Cruising
you may want to consider aBasic Cruising Refresher
If you already have completed
Basic Cruising (or equivalent) and have ~40 hours of skippering
experience this intensive weekend course may be for you. This
format is only suitable for experienced skippers. Please refer
to the Performance
Standard and if you have any doubts the
regular format is probably more suitable for you.

Cruising or equivalent plus lots of practical experience.
Price This price does not include text books or
a log book.
We strongly recommend
reading "Basic Cruising Skills" by Gillian West (the
Basic Cruising course text book) and Cruising Fundamentals (author
H.Munns) or equivalent text books before attempting this course.
