Why would anyone want to invest time and money in learning the art and science of celestial navigation when we can easily buy a GPS for a couple of hundred bucks?
Here are some of the reasons
- It is an art and a science and consequently it is interesting to learn and practice.
- It's requires skill; anyone can read lat & long from a GPS. There are however other things you can do with GPS. Do you want to know more?
- It is reliable and does not need batteries.
- To impress your fellow sailors who think it's difficult (with the Ynot Sailing approach it isn't).
We have all the necessary training equipment including sextants.

Formats
Classroom or Home study - the choice is yours!
The 8 session classroom course is run only during the fall and winter sesaons. We will organize a course at other times if there is enough demand. There is lots of hands-on examples and graduates are encouraged to sign up for some on-the-water practice during the season.
For the home study format you get all the same material and coaching you just do not attend the classroom sessions. It is recommended that you take no more than three months but it is up to you to decide. Take as much time as you need to complete the course at your own pace
